Look, when it gets to the point where people feel they have to apologize for liking Valentine's Day, it has gone too far. You're not some enlightened soul who is above all that, going against the mainstream commercialist herd, a lone voice crying in the wilderness of chocolate bonbons and pink satin hearts. You are the Grinch who stole Valentine's. If you don't want to celebrate it, then don't; there have been years when I haven't, because it just didn't matter that much. But quit acting like someone who just discovered a new religion...or diet. Misplaced moral superiority is one of the Top Ten Real Roots of All Evil.
Amen. And just to cover all the bases, replace "Valentine's Day" with any of the following:
Christmas
Meat
WalMart
The Latest Big Budget Movie
Carbs
Weddings

Between the snobbery of it, and the grinchness of it, it's just about one of my biggest pet peeves as well. You don't like something? Groovy. That doesn't mean I suck because I do like it. And it doesn't make you better than me.
