Somewhen I had the idea that, when applying for a job, you should be given an ID number, and a gender-and-race neutral computer generated picture. Here's the qualifications. No, you can't tell if the person is male/female/black/white/old/young.

Logistically it would never work, but it's a nice thought

Some colleges do that with admissions essays, and I've heard of companies that strip identifying info from resumes when they're first passed around.

Of course, you eventually need to show up for an interview, but you'll already have a foot in the door.

Some orchestras have candidates audition behind a screen, so the music is audible, but nothing is visible.
